NJ Becomes Next State to Permit Soldiers to Marry by Proxy

article directly from New Jersey Enacts “Marriage by Proxy” Law for Service Members by Matt Rooney

The State of New Jersey is expanding the rights of its active duty soldiers by instituting “proxy marriage” in the Garden State.

What is marriage by proxy?

State Senator Diane Allen of Burlington County, sponsor of the S299 legislation in the State Senate (Assemblymen Herb Conaway Jr. of Delanco was the State Assembly sponsor), issued this explanatory press release shortly after Governor Chris Christie signed it into law earlier today:

Things You Can Learn from the Kardashian Marriage

I hate to admit I've watched the entire season of Kourtney & Kim Take New York even thought I swore it off for 2012, but as a married lady...I think there are a few things I've learned from their mistakes. And while we can all admit that sure, that show is probably pieced together but the truth is - their marriage failed so what can hurt from observing the downfall?

  • Communication - need I really explain this? Communication is key in a relationship - and when it fails, the relationship will surely fail. Knowing and understanding your partner is always the best way to ensure that a relationship (even friendships) thrives healthy for a long time.
  • Understanding - a beginning of a relationship always tends to be easy...it's once you're together for a long period you have to learn to understand each other and understand that working together makes a life together easier.
  • Respect - is truly the root of all strong relationships. I'm not saying that you need to agree on everything and there will be times that you will lash out like a teenager but you always have to remember that you love and married this person and you will have to remember to respect them. In public and in private...they are your person.
  • Pay Attention -  Listen to your spouse when he or she talks to you. It’s a sign of respect. Try to give him or her your undivided attention. Also, nod in agreement occasionally—it tells your partner you’re listening. If your spouse talks to you when you’re in the middle of something important, say so, and suggest a time when you’ll be able to pay full attention.
  • Privacy - Don’t go through your partner’s things out of curiosity or in an effort to make them look neater. Privacy is a fundamental need all humans have, so be sure to respect it. Similarly, make it a habit not to repeat your spouse’s words to others. You never know what your mate wants kept secret.

Gift Registry 360

A cool new development in ease of Gift Registry's -- GiftRegistry360 by the all-powerful TheKnot. So what is GiftRegistry360 ? To take from their web site...
Gift Registry 360 is the future of registry gifting because it takes the product information out of the retailers’ websites and puts it into the hands of the couple. Gift Registry 360 is the ultimate registry service by allowing couples to create their registry any way they’d like. Whether they launched their registry in-store or need to start online, they can add products via the Gift Registry 360 catalog featuring over 200,000 products from the top retailers or via our Gift Registry 360 bookmarklet tool.

They have partnered Macy's, Crate & Barrel, Target, Williams-Sonoma and the Home Depot all to make this possible and more convenient for the 21st century couple.

The platform launched with the following key features:

  • ADD ITEMS TO YOUR REGISTRY BY CATEGORY: Browse the widest selection of products by category across multiple retailers.
  • ADD ITEMS TO YOUR REGISTRY BY RETAILER: Search through a particular retailer's entire product catalog.
  • ADD FROM ANYWHERE: A bookmarking tool allows users to register for items from any website.
  • ONE LIST: Any item added appears on a single registry list.
  • REFERRED TRANSACTIONS: All transactions occur on the retailer's site, and the company collects a commission on the sale.
  • LINK & SYNC REGISTRIES: Already have gift registries at a partner retailer? Users can Link & Sync their existing gift registries to merge them into a single registry list that is easy to manage and easy for guests to shop from. Updates or purchases made through Gift Registry360.com will be reflected in-store and vice versa.
  • STYLEBOARDS: There’s a new way to shop. The Gift Registry 360 Styleboard is a tool that allows users to design a room by taking products from our catalog or their own registry list and placing them on a virtual canvas to see how different products fit together.
  • ONLINE AND PRINTABLE ANNOUNCEMENT CARDS: Users can share their gift registries list with their guests through online and printable announcement cards.

Of course my personal favorite feature is the iPhone Scan & Add app. It's free via the iTunes store and is available right now.

  • Update and view your registry list anytime, anywhere
  • Add any item using our barcode scanner app
  • All items are added onto ONE easy to manage and share list
  • Product updates are automatically synced to your GiftRegistry360.com
  • Purchases are automatically updated on GiftRegistry360.com and retailer registry

Happy {belated} New Year

So I'm a little late with this post, but hey - sorry. I hope everyone had a happy and safe holidays! Mine was surely amazing. Weddings, new year's eve kisses and lots of time with friends and family.

With a new year, it brings lots of new things for Daily Dose of Wedding. So what am I planning you ask? Simple answer. Loads of stuff just for you.

I have officially opened up business for you as a wedding consultant. Whatever you need, whenever you need it. I'm very excited to announce this and to better help you all, I'm going to help myself by taking a certificate program so you can trust I know what I'm doing.  I initially had thought of opening a different web site or company, but in the end DDOW is where the Services brand needs to come from. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Click over to "Services" on the upper tabs to read more...or just click here.

As some of you many know by my many references to "my husband" - I've been married for a little while now. So I thought...some of my other readers may be married already and have a thought... "what's next?" In an effort to make sure all my readers are taken care of, I've decided to start a weekly posting for us married ladies on life after wedding, buying a house...and everything else that your life involves prior to getting to sucked into wedding more!
    Buy a house!
       Adopt a dog!
           Have a baby!
              Travel, travel, travel.

I am so not crafty. I've tried and I usually fail...but this year I purchased a Martha Stewart Craft book and I am determined to try one once a month. Maybe if I get crafty, I'll do more than that but right now...once a month is all I can promise!

These crafts will be ones that can double as crafts you can work into your wedding and other events in your life - plus home decor! You'll just have to give me sometime to get better at it so hopefully round one isn't so terrible.

Martha Stewart Glitter Straws

It's baking time! It's a known fact amongst my friends about my obsession with Funfetti...but this year I want to expand to different baked goods. Just like my crafts list of to-do's this year, I'd really like to become a much more extravagant baker.

Given all the weddings I have coming up, I will definitely be trying to do some fun shapes and experiment with a little glitter.

2012 promises to hold a lot of changes for me and I hope that some of my changes mean good things for all of my readers! Please feel free to email me anytime with any wedding questions!

100. New Year's Eve Wedding

Calvin & Melissa
December 31, 2011

When there are weddings that have so much anticipation, it's hard to describe what it's like once it's finally here...and then gone!

Melissa & Calvin have been engaged for a while, and we were all so excited when it was finally here that only the pictures can really describe the amazing night and event that it was.
