64. Royal Wedding Fashion Round-up

Been up since 5am...and totally wish that I had taken off of work for this! The YouTube channel just isn't cutting it. Thank god my office building cafeteria has CNN on the flat-screen!

HRH the Duchess of Cambridge aka Catherina aka KATE (sorry I love it) wore not one - but two stunning Alexander McQueen dresses under the direction of Sarah Burton. The first dress was classically beautiful and oozed of Grace Kelly - but she still looking phenomenal. The second dress, however, was a classy, modern look for her. I loved that she had two dresses.

On to the photos!

Royal Wedding 411

If you're like me - you're probably feeling a little overwhelmed right now...there's a ton of new episodes of shows like Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Michael Scott's last episode on The Office, the NFL Draft...oh and ALL the Royal Wedding coverage.

So I'm going to try and break it down for you as the fabulous hour approaches.

First things first...download the 94 page media briefing document from the Official Royal Wedding web site. It's totally worth the two hours you will spend reading through it.

Secondly...if you are not into all the pre-wedding stuff know this...11am England time is NOT the time it will air in the United States. If you're like me and on the East Coast the bride will walk down the aisle at 6am. Set your clocks kids.

If you download the media briefing (duh, go do it NOW) you can see the complete breakdown. But here are a few key points.
  • 10:10am (5:10am EST) The Bridegroom and Prince Henry of Wales leave Clarence House for Westminster Abbey.
  • 10:38am (5:38am EST) The Prince of Wales and The Dutches of Cornwall (aka Charles and Camilla) leave Clarence House for Westminster Abbey.
  • 10:40am (5:40am EST) The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh leave Buckingham Palace for Westminster Palace.
  • 10:51am (5:51am EST) The Bride, accompanied by Mr. Michael Middleton, leaves the Goring Hotel for Westminster Abbey.
  • 11:00am (6am EST) The Marriage Service begins.
  • 12:15pm (7:15am EST) The Carriage Procession of the Bride and Bridegroom with a Captain’s Escort of the Household Cavalry, followed by The Queen’s Procession with a Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry, leaves Westminster Abbey for Buckingham Palace.
  • 1:25pm (8:25am EST) The Queen and the Bride and the Bridegroom, together with their families appear on the balcony

Live streaming on The Royal Channel

For the first time, broadcast footage of a royal wedding will be live streamed on The Royal Channel on YouTube (www.youtube.com/theroyalchannel), accompanied by a live multi-media blog put together by St James’s Palace.

The Royal Channel will host a live stream 'gadget', produced by Google, which will stream the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton live on the day from 10am until 2pm.  This will include the couple’s journey to and from Westminster Abbey, the Wedding Service, balcony appearance and fly past.

The feed will be taken from the BBC without a broadcaster's commentary.  Staff at Clarence House and St James’s Palace will provide a live commentary with historical information, interesting links, additional photographs and video footage as well as an integrated Twitter feed.  This will be the first time a live blog has run alongside a live stream on YouTube for any occasion.

On Twitter @Clarence House will be live tweeting

As for what to watch on television...really almost every news station will be covering this. Daily Dose of Wedding will be watching TLC starting at 5am -- as well as live tweeting -- @DailyDoseOfWedd #RoyalWedding #RoyalWeddingTLC and #DDOW

Woo hoo!

It's almost here.

Let's do this.

63a. iPhone 4 in White!

Gasp....how can DDOW report on anything but the Royal Wedding at this moment...BUT Apple released it's iPhone 4 in white and for someone who generally doesn't like white...I think it's beautiful!

I'm very excited...plus it's WHITE so it's the perfect accessory for your wedding day! In 2011 most couples more than likely have their phones on them at someone point during their wedding day so why not match...white dress, white day....white iPhone!!

PS I thought you should know this post was not sponsored...my love for weddings is only slightly exceeded my LOVE of anything Apple product related. Hi Steve Jobs! Call me!

63. Ten Things Kate Middleton Can't Do

It's been widely reported on a number of that Kate Middleton can no longer do once she says "I Do" to Prince William TOMORROW (ps. YAY). We all compromise and adjust to certain things when entering a marriage...but having something pre-laid out for you? How interesting...

Let's Review

  1. No longer can be referred to as "Kate"
    • Ah and we all love it so much...after her I Do's are in place it's bye-bye to "Kate" and hello to "Catherine" or "Ma'am" -- her official title will be "Her Royal Highness the Princess William of Wales." Clarence House will probably do their best to kiss-up to the London Royal correspondents and then ask them to refer to "Kate" as "Catherine." More than likely this won't work - considering all the search engine keywords that have picked up "Kate" over the last few years.
  2.  Vote
    •  In the technical sense, the Queen and the Royal Family are allowed to vote; however, they choose not to because in voting it would breach their stance of neutrality. They try to identify themselves with all groups - major and minority.
  3. Run for Political Office
    • For the same reasons as above - this is also not done
  4. Escape the Scrutiny from the Public
    • To be fair - they have been together for almost a decade at this point...and over the last few months this is the most we have heard about her. Going forward, the Royal News will probably cover her every move like Diana...hopefully Kate and William will not meet the same fate as they did.
  5.  Play Monopoly...?
    • Yeah, not really sure what to say about this one about BUT as of 2008 Prince Andrew, the Duke of York that the Royal Family does not play "because it gets to vicious."
  6. Say or Do Anything  Controversial
    •   This basically encompasses anything that would really...make Kate do something that would make her seem like she has a personality - sex position, social and political views...speak in general.
  7.  Eat Shellfish
    • According to what's been leaked - the Royal Family never serves shellfish because of food poisoning...I'm really not sure what to say about this one.
  8.  Work
    • As proven in the past - careers aren't really "for" the Royal Family. With Kate, I'm not sure she'll miss it considering she hasn't really done much with her Art History degree.
  9. Sign Anything Official
    •   If you think about it - celebrities sign things (or the nice ones do) all the time, so this perplexed me at first...however, in Kate and William's case...it makes sense. William is the 2nd in line to the thrown and Kate - will one day be his Queen. If they were to sign something they run the risk of it being copied and forged.
  10. Finish Her Dinner
    • Okay so this one made me like "whaaaaaat." In Britain, when the Queen stops eating, you stop eating as well. I would suggest eating fast or learning the Queen's pace. Jeez, that's crazy!

    62a. Earth Day!

Earth Day is a day that is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment. Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. While this first Earth Day was focused on the United States, an organization launched by Denis Hayes, who was the original national coordinator in 1970, took it international in 1990 and organized events in 141 nations. Earth Day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year. Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues. In 2009, the United Nations designated April 22 International Mother Earth Day. - Wikipedia

    62. A Look Back at Royal Weddings

In keeping with the countdown to the Royal Wedding posts (ahhhh) I thought it would be best to reflect on the Royal Weddings over the last century or so.

While millions will be in London for the big day, it's clear that people around the world have wedding fever. Google search trends show that in addition to the UK and the US, the top ten countries searching for “Royal Wedding” include places like Singapore and the Philippines. In response, we've been working to make as much of the big day as possible accessible to everyone. We previously announced the expansion of our Google Earth 3D imagery to offer a “Royals’-eye” view of the entire wedding procession, complete with 3D images of iconic landmarks and five species of digital trees that can be seen along the route.

Today, we’re thrilled that the Royal Household has just announced that footage of the entire ceremony will be live streamed on their official YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/theroyalchannel.

The live stream will begin at 10:00am BST (9:00am GMT, 2:00am PT, 5:00am ET) on Friday, April 29, and will follow the wedding procession, marriage ceremony at Westminster Abbey and balcony kiss. Alongside the live stream, The Royal Channel will also feature live blog commentary of the event to give timely updates and insights as the day unfolds. For those of you in different time zones, the footage will be reshown in its entirety directly following the event and will be available in full on the site to view afterward.

You don’t have to wait until the big day to "attend" the wedding, though. A video guest book has just been opened on The Royal Channel for anyone in the YouTube community to upload messages of congratulations, inspiration or well wishes to the happy couple.

More than 50 years ago, the marriage of The Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, and Antony Armstrong-Jones was the first royal wedding to be broadcast on television and had over 20 million viewers. This one is already heralded as the first of the Internet age, where for the first time in thousands of years of royal history, the moment will be captured online and preserved forever.

    60. RSVP

RSVP aka Répondez S'il Vous Plaît aka Reply Please aka Please Respond

Sounds simple enough, but whether you're a guest or the host...it's way more complex than ever imagined. As guests, you sometimes forget - or all together ignore - the obligation to respond...and as a host who has provided easy ways to contact you...can't comprehend why people simply can't take 5 minutes and comply. Really, it's a vicious circle.

Wanting to appeal to both sides of the spectrum -- guests and hosts -- I am breaking this piece into two parts. The first part will cover the guest and the second part will be the host. Let's go!

    I am the guest...
9 times out of 10, a guest will know by the time they receive an invitation to a wedding whether or not they are going. It's rare they truly are undecided and need more time to reflect. But let's be real here...this isn't a Facebook invitation there is no maybe option. It's simple...yes or no.

A wedding invitation RSVP card will come with a stamp and a pre-addressed envelope so you don't have to do ANY work except for writing your name and checking off your food choice...so really, as a guest you should give the host the courtesy of responding as soon as you can. Sending the RSVP card back will not only be helpful to your host, but will make things easier on you "hey look, that's already done. Check!"

Here are some tips are proper RSVPing:
    • If you know for 100% certain you will be in attendance send your card back right away. There's no harm in being prompt...and it takes that off your to-do list.
    • It's rare these days with STDs, wedding wed sites, and social media that someone is shocked by an invitation so if you believe you will be invited, block it off on your calendar just as an FYI
    • If for someone reason (money, travel or another event booked) you cannot attend - send the card back right away. Most venues charge per head so the sooner they know you won't be in attendance, the better. *Extra advice: getting a RSVP no sometimes hurts...regardless of your relation to the person you are saying no to, I would suggest letting them know why you cannot attend. It doesn't have to be complete detail but just enough that they know you are sorry you cannot be there.
    •  If you are a serious maybe (work, need a babysitter, other wedding invite) I would lay out a time-line for yourself. A note on the fridge, a reminder on your digital calendar...whatever works for YOU to ensure you get the card back on time.

In conclusion you do not want to be the guest that...
    - Is known for RSVPing via Facebook
    - The hosts had to call 3 or 4 times before they got an answer
    - The hosts had to get your response from another person
    - Never responded or acknowledged the invite
All of this will ensure you probably won't get an invite to the next event.

    I am the host...
Take a second, sit down and breathe this statement in. Not everyone will RSVP.  There, I said it. You heard it...let's make a game plan. There is no legit reason - other than pure laziness or dislike of the couple - why someone would not RSVP. And regardless of how you may try to prevent a mass amount of people from not replying, you will definitely have to contact a few. Frustrating I know, but it's something you should accept now - and not spaz over later.

But even if all goes accordingly - I can guarantee people will forget to RSVP on time - or at all...so here are a few tips to get the maximum amount of responses...
    • Provide an envelope pre-addressed with where the RSVP card is supposed to go and place a stamp on it
      • Some couples use postcards for lower postage - still make sure it's addressed and has postage
    • Don't give guests more than a month away to respond. Sure it sounds great about giving people "plenty of time" but the longer than time in between the deadline and invite received the more likely people are to think "eh, I have plenty of time to send this back."
    • If you only invite a mother and father of a family - or a guest without a date and they reply back with more than the number of people invited, do not hesitate to contact them. Be mindful this may (a) change their mind about coming or (b) be met with resentment. Stay strong - but be sure to let them know if a tactful way that only _x_ number of people are invited. The same goes if they contact you prior to responding asking if so-and-so are invited as well.
      • In order to get an exact number of attendees, you may wish to include this line “____ number attending”.
    • If a person responds without choosing the type of food they want (really, the least of the issues) there's no harm in contacting them to confirm.
    • Do be sure to give yourself at least two weeks in between the deadline and the date that you need to turn in final numbers to the venue. This cushion will allow stragglers to get their RSVPs in as well as get you time in case you need to reach out to specific guests.

So you do everything right, but still you have some no responses...Here are the best ways to tackle contacting those who have chosen not to respond after the deadline passes.
    • At some point (4 or 5 calls later) it will become obvious that the person is a RSVP no - make sure to not go to far.
    • Make sure to have the "right" person calling the guest. For example, your parents should call your family - and your fiance (or their parents) calls their friends/family members. It would be awkward to call your fiance's Aunt Millie who you've never met.
    • It's okay to be a little pushy, after all...these people have had ample notice. Don't offend people, but don't let them feed you bullshit.
    • Start with phone calls to contact people, then move to email and lastly (ugh) Facebook. By showing the effort to have human-to-human contact it will show you want the person at your wedding.
    • It may seem tacky but if after multiple attempts if there is a "third party" you can contact - like someone's mom or dad - to see if the person is coming, what does it hurt? I had to do it - it got me an answer...I may not have liked the RSVP but I got one.

Both guests and hosts will benefit from following really the basic rules of etiquette - guests don't want to those people who are late and unreliable and hosts don't want to be harassing people for being late by a deadline of one day!

So readers...what are your RSVP horror stories? Did I miss a tip or get something wrong in your opinion? Let's hear it!

      58a. Jennifer Miller Jewelry

I first saw a piece of Jennifer Miller Jewelry on the August 2009 cover of Cosmopolitan. It was a snake ring that wrapped around Katy Perry's finger, and it was Sapphires. I was in love instantly.

While the jewelry itself may be a little on the pricey size...the variety of jewelry you can purchase is so adorable. And being Wedding Wednesday, I wanted to share a little sparkle with you!

You can go with jewelry for the bride...

Or you can do some shopping for your bridesmaids and the mother's of the both the bride and groom and find a super awesome gift to match their dresses...
